Hi, I just got a EARS 834 split clone (do I get a prize?), and the thing sounds amazing, even at only 25 hours break-in. Uuf sing Genelex Golden Lion ECC83 tubes. But both the power supply module and tube circuit module get quite HOT, and I cant see that to a happy long life for these items.
I was thinking of inverting the 6 Samyoung 22uf capacitors (replacing them with Mundorf MLytic HV Radial 22caps) and the 2 ERO 1uf with some MKP silver foil 1uf caps. Then drilling 3 holes for the tubes on the top of the 2nd box, so they protrude and cool better.
I was also thinking of cutting a large round hole above the toroidal transformer on 1st box and adhering a black wire mesh on that...OR ... cutting a square hole for a noiseless small fan (noctua?) inside the chassis exhausting to the outside beside the transformer with wire mesh, and a couple of small holes on the other side of the toroid on the bottom for cool air inlet... What do you think??
I notice you like to use the Mundorf EVO range caps. Which ones do you like to use? and for what function? (I am trialing them on my ProAC tablettes. Using Mundorf EVO aluminium/oil for midrange; --- EVO silver/gold/oil for tweeter. For the base part just the Ecap smooth will do)
..also, if you have trialled one --- how does this EAR834 compare to the Hagerman Cornet 2 or 3 ?. I got some parts but decided I was going to hard-wire instead of use a circuit board, with Mundorf Silver/Gold solder.
