Hey all. I just completed the Skunkie mods on this amp and something is wrong.. the amp blows the fuse a few seconds after powering up.. the rectifier tube arced briefly then it blew the fuse.. a few things that might be helpful:
1 - i noticed when i opened the amp up to begin the mods that there was already a jumper across the resistor to get the b+ voltage up.. so either they are doing this from new now, or the previous owner has done it..
2 - i noticed that in my amp, the two caps that are 33Uf in the video, are actually factory 22Uf (photo below)
3 - The rectifier tube is a Russian Mullard GZ34

Once a rectifier tube arcs its junk and it will continue to Arc and blow fuses.
First make sure there isn't a short circuit in the wiring, that would do this
But most likely was a weak rectifier tube and the solution is to hunt down a new old stock 5ar4. The modern ones are junk from my experience and about 50% of them don't meet specs. If you are intent on using a new production, the only ones I've had any luck with are the TAD and sovtech.
Was this a mark III?
